An apartment in Chiado, with the original layout of an old building and the difficult light that comes from a narrow street. The design started there: opening up what could be opened, and working the artificial light where the daylight does not reach.

Materials that cope with an old building

In refurbishment, the choice of materials is not only aesthetic — it has to allow for floors that are not level, walls that are not plumb and ceilings that change from room to room. We chose solutions that absorb that irregularity rather than announce it.

The build was contracted by the client to their own builder. Our role was the design, the material specification and support on decisions throughout the works.
